need some opinions on what motor

I blew my motor (gsr) and was thinking about selling the car but now I'm just thinking about dropping in another motor again.
Its going to be installed into a del sol with a t3/t4 set up but I'm not sure what block to get. b18c1, b18b or b16?
I have the head and most of the other parts from the b18c motor. I just need a block 1 JE piston and rod. But I'm having a hard time finding just a block and crank. I see lots of b16 and b18b blocks but I'm not sure if there good for boost or what the cost is. I just need to find the best bang for the buck with out the motor coming apart. Any ideas are welcome.

Well first thing...stay away from JG...I have heard tons of stories about there sleeves and blocks having problems...what happaned to your current block???..what about having that block sleeved??....or did you blow a hole throw the side of it [img]frown.gif[/img]

if you got an ls block you would have to do some head modifications and a i would suggest a crank girdle if you are running a lot of boost. i would just get another gsr block and new internals

Had that quote saved from a board a long time ago. I have no direct experience with JG but they did build a head for a friend that was complete crap. I've also heard of some other horror stories.

Benson's seems to be the most popular builder these days, and there are a few other popular builders.

Just get yourself a B18C1 block, shouldnt be too tough to find. They come up pretty often.

I'm only planning on running 8-10 psi on the motor. I have a $1000 limit for the motor, internals, gaskets and fluids. If I stay with the gsr motor I'd need another forged rod and piston so thats going to be pushing the buget with just the block a piston.
How do these motors compare as far as power and ability to be boosted?

Do oil squirters and girdle do that much for the b18c at 8 psi? What do they help? The motor will see some high rpms but more speeds in excess of 100 mph for a period of time if it matters.

Can I use the rods, pistons and head I have on any b-series? I know it will have effects on compression and stroke but I'm not sure whats recomended.

As for my old block the rod came out in the #3 near the dip stick and the piston hit the head and smashed like glass. But I'm not sure what happened first.

If I understand you correctly...
Your current GSR block is shot because the #3 rod punched a hole through the outer case.

This means that you essentially need a whole shortblock. With the budget that you have offered up, I suggest you get a clean, used GSR shortblock and put your head and various parts on it. Forged internals are not necessary for 8-10 psi... many JRSC owners have proven this for years.

As for your driving style: Long Term, High speed driving is REALLY abusive to any forced-inducted Honda/Acura. You might consider cutting some of that out... your engine will love you for it.

I know forged internals aren't really needed but if I going with a gsr block I might as well buy one more piston that way I could just add more fuel and up the boost if I wanted. I'm not running a jrsc any more but a t3/t4 instead.
Any ideas where I should look for a block?
